An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 85

1970 Fiat Abarth 595 Evocation
595 Abarth Evocation fitted with 650cc Engine

Registration - LWT 393H

Chassis No. - 2589480

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 7,336

This delightful lefthand drive Abarth evocation is the result of the no-expense-spared restoration and uprating of a standard 1970 Nuova model. This included: sandblasting of its body and a respray in the period-correct livery of Fiat Bianco 233; lowered suspension; wider Millerighe period-correct alloy wheels shod with high quality tyres; and a disc brake conversion kit. The powerplant is a refurbished twin-cylinder unit of 650cc that breathes via a twin-choke Weber carburettor and exhausts via a ‘Record Monza’ single pipe system. Other features of the engine that drives through a synchro gearbox include a Cav Mac alloy rocker cover and yellow Abarth Shell oil filler cap. The Fiat’s exterior abounds with additional touches of chrome, while the custom interior boasts: white piping and stitching matched to red seating and door cards; sound insulation; and replacement carpets, sunroof canvas and facia etc. Finishing touches of note include a woodrim steering wheel, uprated H4 headlamps, pair of Wipac auxiliary lights, chromed bullet door mirrors, Abarth-logoed bonnet prop, and quality Pioneer speakers for the sound system. A very attractive proposition.

Carlo Abarth’s legendary relationship with the Fiat 500 dates back virtually to the time of its launch in 1957. Concerned by the initial rate of sales and impressed by Abarth’s burgeoning reputation for making go-faster versions of its bigger 600 model, Fiat commissioned the tuner to create a sports variant of its little newcomer. It was available only in white with red side stripes and wheel rims and featured a well-tweaked engine nestling below the engine cover and, to set the scene, a quartet of examples dominated their class in the Hockenheim 12-hour race five months before the Sport’s official debut. The model evolved into the Abarth 595, the 594cc engines of which boasted 27bhp – sufficient for a top speed in excess of 75mph, a velocity owners of the standard car could only dream of.

In summary:

  • Subject to an extensive restoration and conversion five years ago
  • Two UK keepers since being imported in 2021
  • Considered ‘excellent’ in all major respects by the vendor
