  Lot 73

1997 Ford Mustang SN95 SVT Cobra Convertible
Rare sought after Manual *** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - R344 BMX

Chassis No. - 1FALP46V2VF175329

M.O.T. - March 2024

Odometer - 86,570

Now here’s a rarity, in fact the Mustang Owners Club apparently believe it is the only one of its type in the UK. It’s a 1997 model that was registered new in October of that year and has had a total of five keepers to date, the most recent of whom acquired the lefthand drive convertible in October 2021. She is a self-confessed Mustang enthusiast, who informs us that the hood and hood motor have recently been replaced and that the Ford’s been treated to new steel brake discs and ceramic pads. She adds that the car is ‘very clean underneath, with zero rust’ and currently grades the 4.6-litre V8 engine, five-speed manual gearbox and convertible bodywork as ‘excellent’, and the black paintwork and black leather interior trim as ‘average to good’. She is now offering the car complete with sports exhaust system, tonneau cover, factory radio/casette and CD player, and two sets of keys. The odometer currently registers a credible total mileage of 86,570.

It was in 1996 that Ford pensioned off the ageing 302ci 5-litre V8 it had fitted to the Mustang GT and earlier SVT Cobras and replaced it with an all-alloy 4.6-litre DOHC unit. Each was hand-assembled by a two-person team from Ford’s engine plant in Romeo, Michigan. The output of the powerplant was 305bhp – sufficient to allow the 0-60mph dash to be achieved in a pretty impressive 5.4 seconds. The SN-95 was ultimately manufactured for a total of three years, during which time some 28,705 coupes and convertibles were produced. The cost of the convertible version Stateside in period would have been c.$27,580.

In summary:

  • Thought to be the only Mustang of its type in the UK
  • Recently treated to a new hood, hood motor and brakes
  • Five keepers and 86,570 miles from new
