An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 59

1966 Jaguar MKII 2.4
Believed to have covered a credible 19,000 miles, one former keeper

Registration - AVG 6770

Chassis No. - 120707DN

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 19,409

If a MKII Jaguar is on your wish list (as it has been for many of us at one time or another), then there are at least three reasons why you should take a peek at ‘AVG 677D’. Firstly, it has had just one former keeper from new, who retained the car for no less than 56 years. Secondly, it is firmly believed to have covered a mere 19,409 miles in its 57 years on the road. Last but not last, it has only recently emerged from a ‘high standard’ restoration. The Jaguar is painted in an attractive shade of red, trimmed in a complementary tone of the same colour and rides on a set of silver painted wire wheels shod with Vredestein tyres. It is now being offered complete with uprated Coopercraft front brakes, factory-fitted overdrive, push-button Motorola radio, original buff log book and owner’s manual, plus every MOT certificate issued since 1981.

Synonymous with the swinging ‘60s, the MKII featured notably slimmer roof pillars than its MKI forebear, and was as airy on the inside as it was elegant on the outside. Its monocoque bodyshell was equipped with independent coil-sprung front suspension, a well located live rear axle and 12-inch disc brakes all-round. The model could be specified with a 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8-litre version of Jaguar’s race-proved, inline, six-cylinder XK engine. The interior was quintessentially British with its sumptuous leather-covered seats, polished wood facia and door cappings, comprehensive instrumentation and impressive row of auxiliary toggle switches. The attention to detail and build quality were remarkable for the price (just £1,779 0s 10d including taxes even for the 3.8) – these cars punched above their weight. A total of 83,976 MKIIs were built between 1959 and 1967, 25,173 of which were powered by the 2.4-litre engine.

In summary:

  • Just two keepers and 19,409 miles from new
  • The recent subject of a comprehensive restoration
  • Comes with original buff log book and MOT certificates from 1981
