The Bolesworth Castle May 2024 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 70

1989 Bentley Continental Convertible
Meticulously maintained and boasts desirable factory options such as Waterford Crystal decanter and glasses adorning both driver and passenger doors

Registration - F613 SDL

Chassis No. - SCBZD00A0KCH29031

M.O.T. - August 2024

Odometer - 47,644

This 1989 Bentley Continental Convertible, in Tudor Red with twin metallic gold hand-painted coachlines, is described as being meticulously maintained with a well-preserved history from the scenic (and often dry) surroundings of Nice in the South of France. One of the last Bentleys to have a coachbuilt body by Mulliner Park Ward, it is one of just 53 cars produced in right-hand drive between 1985 and 1989. The odometer reads 47,360 miles and it has a comprehensive service history from Rolls-Royce/Bentley. The condition, described as ‘excellent’ throughout, reflects what the vendor describes as “investment-grade quality”, and distinct features “elevate it to a league of its own”. These include a rare shrouded boot-mounted brake light (fitted by the special products department after registration) and an incredible Waterford Crystal decanter and glasses hidden within the driver and passenger doors. The vendor adds the car “drives perfectly, accelerating well, shifting smoothly and stopping quickly”.

The Bentley Continental line is a storied and popular one within Bentley Motors. It was originally used between 1952-1965 to signify special chassis with more powerful engines, which were supplied to hand-picked coachbuilders for the fitting of specialist bodywork. The name was later revived in 1984 as a more focused coupe and convertible version of the Rolls-Royce Corniche. The Continental name was also used to mark the rebirth of Bentley as a company distinct from Rolls-Royce, following the Volkswagen takeover of the brand; the pivotal Bentley Continental GT was introduced in 2003 and survives to this day.

In summary:

  • Meticulously-maintained 1989 Bentley Continental Convertible
  • Described as boasting “investment-grade quality”
  • Unique features include Waterford Crystal decanter and glasses in the doors
