The Bolesworth Castle May 2024 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 6

1981 Range Rover 'Two Door'
***NO RESERVE***

Registration - LWP 784X

Chassis No. - SALLHABV1AA113148

M.O.T. - TBC

Odometer - 89,919

This rare 1981 Range Rover is a real collectible – it is one of 1000 ‘In Vogue’ special editions introduced in 1981. The limited-run cars were created following the appearance of a bespoke Range Rover in a Vogue magazine photoshoot; all production cars shared the same light blue metallic paint, ‘Vogue’ coachlines and beige velour interior complemented by wood veneer. The 3.5-litre V8 engine is paired with an automatic transmission. The vendor is offering this car as a project, and says it is presented accordingly. They describe it as being in ‘average’ condition throughout. For a skilled marque enthusiast or specialist workshop, it would make an ideal restoration project, particularly as many of the original special features appear to remain in tact. Owned by the same family for the past 20 years, it is offered with no reserve.

The Range Rover was introduced in 1970 as a more luxurious V8-powered alternative ot the classic series Land Rover. Inspired by American family-focused off-roaders, it had more comfortable suspension, a smooth and effortless engine, yet still boasted excellent off-road abilities. Indeed, the all-round brilliance of the original Range Rover soon saw it move upmarket, gaining features such as air conditioning, leather upholstery – and, yes, carpet instead of the original hose-clean plastic flooring. The In Vogue special edition of 1981, inspired by a photoshoot by the eponymous fashion magazine, was the most luxurious yet, and helped the Range Rover develop into the genuine luxury car it is today.

In summary:

  • Rare Range Rover In Vogue project car
  • One of just 1000 collectable 1981 special editions
  • Owned by the same family for 20 years and offered with no reserve
