The Bolesworth Castle May 2024 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 78

1972 Datsun 240Z
The subject of a full, professional race build, and eligible for the HSCC 1970’s Road Sports Championship

Registration - MHX 152L

Chassis No. - AM300/1118

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - TBC

This distinctive, storied and competition-ready 1972 Datsun 240Z has enjoyed a full professional rebuild and comes complete with an official Vehicle Identity Form from the Historic Sports Car Club – which certifies the accuracy of its detailed description. It is eligible to compete in the HSCC 1970s Road Sports Championship, a series that is growing in popularity, and one in which it has been campaigned in recent years. The vendor says its potency is underlined by a “full-blown race engine with less than 500 miles,” which is in ‘excellent’ condition, and the car overall has also covered fewer than 500 miles since build. The race-ready interior is described as ‘good’, as is the paintwork, and fulsome attention to detail is demonstrated by the carefully-considered race-spec upgrades. This sleek silver six-cylinder Datsun, with its race history.

The 1969 Datsun 240Z was the car that kick-started the famous ‘Z-car’ line. An iconic car in the United States, some of this cool car kudos came over to the UK too, with the model line enjoying plenty of heritage. Inspired by motorsport success in the 1960s, the new car was called 240Z because of its 2.4-litre in-line six-cylinder engine. The setup was simple and pure, but brilliantly conceived, so handling was fantastic. Add in great value prices, and a new icon was born. Development continued throughout the 1970s, with more power and extra features, but for aficionados, it is the original car that’s the best and most pure of them all.

In summary:

· Fully-rebuilt historic race-ready Datsun 240Z

· Less than 500 miles since rebuild

· Eligible for HSCC 1970s Road Sports Championship
