  Lot 90

1960 Bedford J Type Pick-up

Registration - 1562 HX

Chassis No. - 50670

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - TBC

This characterful, right-hand drive Bedford TJ pick-up, finished in gleaming burgundy with a brown interior, has enjoyed a full recent restoration, reports the vendor. The bodywork of this rare classic utility vehicle is described as being in ‘good’ condition, as is the interior, while paintwork is ‘average’. The 2.0-litre engine is said to be ‘excellent’, as is the transmission, and the electrics are described by the vendor as being ‘excellent’ too. This MOT-exempt truck is a J0 version, with the lightest payload from Bedford’s broad range of J Type trucks, and has a pickup rear deck with fold-down sides and rear. It also has a desirable four-number registration, ‘1562 HX’.This characterful, right-hand drive Bedford TJ pick-up, finished in gleaming burgundy with a brown interior, has enjoyed a full recent restoration, reports the vendor. The well-loved Bedford TJ truck was introduced in 1958. It was the final ‘bonneted truck’ from Bedford, with the subsequent 1969 Bedford CF boasting the more space-efficient forward control layout that was becoming commonplace. The characterful Bedford still carried on being offered in the UK for another six years though – and even following its withdrawal here, it continued to be offered for export. The final cars were not produced until 1998, to meet an order from Kenya. Lancastrians are particularly familiar with the Bedford TJ, as local food company Holland’s Pies used them well into the 1980s – the Bedford was colloquially known as a ‘Holland’s pie van’ there.

In summary:
· Rare and recently-restored Bedford truck
· Useful pick-up rear
· ‘Excellent’ engine and transmission
