The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 129

1972 Westfield Eleven

Registration - GAO 306K

Chassis No. - ADA922555

M.O.T. - July 2024

Odometer - 15,872

If you’re seeking an affordable track day or hillclimb car then this pretty Westfield Eleven is surely worth a peek. It is thought to be one of only four built with a Ford CVH powerplant, as normally found in the Escort RS Turbo. The unit features a Power Engineering cam cover that’s a hint towards the two stage boost, 285 camshaft, Pace intercooler, low compression pistons and K&N air filter. The unit drives through a T5 Borg Warner gearbox to a 3.54:1 back axle. The braking system features four-pot calipers up front and RS Ford rear drums. The workmanlike cockpit features a suitably meaty roll cage, Willans harnesses and a Mountney leather-rimmed steering wheel, plus a black tonneau cover for when the two-seater is not being used in anger. The vendor presently grades the engine and gearbox as ‘excellent’, the bodywork and upholstery as ‘good’ and the British Racing Green paintwork as ‘average’. Judging by the number of scrutineering tickets adorning ‘GAO 306K’, it has already given a lot of on-track pleasure and seems ready to provide a lot more in the future. It is being sold complete with a full 12 months’ MOT and the odometer currently registers a total of 15,873 miles.

It was in 1982 that racing driver and engineer Chris Smith designed and built an evocation of the Lotus XI Le Mans car, and was immediately inundated with requests from those wanting replicas. By the following Easter, Westfield Sportscars had been created and went on to build a range of fun road and competition cars. The company is currently a part of the Westfield Chesil group.

In summary:

  • A seemingly very usable street-legal competition car
  • Said to be one of only four CVH-engined Westfields built
  • The engine’s been the subject of a number of uprates
