The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 120

1985 Ferrari Mondial QV Cabriolet
One of only 24 right-hand drive examples made

Registration - C378 PPB

Chassis No. - 58107

M.O.T. -

Odometer - 9,143

This smartly-presented Mondial cabriolet is finished in the classic combination of Rosso Corsa bodywork and cream leather interior trim, that’s complemented by a black hood and period-correct five-spoke alloy wheels shod with quality Michelin TRX tyres. It has had six owners to date and was apparently off the road for 10 years. The vendor presently regards the V8 engine, five-speed manual transmission, 2+2 convertible bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as all being in ‘good’ order. He is now offering this ‘very usable’ Prancing Horse complete with beige hood bag, Ferrari-badged car cover and Kenwood radio/cassette player.

The Mondial was a mid-engind 2+2 manufactured from 1980 to 1993. A successor to the Bertone penned 308/GT4, it was designed by Pininfarina and available as a coupe or cabriolet. The construction was unconventional, with the steel outer body outsourced to Carrozzeria Scaglietti mated to a lightweight steel box-section chassis - the bonnet and boot lids were formed in aluminium. Another unusual feature of the car was that the engine, five-speed manual gearbox and rear suspension were all mounted on a detachable steel subframe for ease of servicing and repair. Suspension was independent all round by wishbones and coil springs, the braking by discs, and the steering by rack and pinion. The model was initially powered by a transversely mounted version of Ferrari’s 3.0-litre V8. The output was increased in 1982 thanks to a 16-valve development of the same engine. That model was replaced by the 3.2-litre version in 1988, by which time 1,145 3.0-litre QV (Quattrovalvole) coupes and 629 cabriolets had been produced. With 237bhp on tap, the model had a terminal speed of 150mph.

In summary:

  • A smartly-presented six-keeper example
  • Has remained within the same ownership since 2016
  • Comec complete with both hood and car covers, and Kenwood audio
