The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 118

1971 Fiat 124 Sport Spider BS
As featured on the TV show Salvage Hunters Classic Cars

Registration - TNB 637J

Chassis No. - 124BS10042269

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 000200

If you’re a fan of the ‘Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars’ programme then this stunning 124 racer will be familiar to you, as it was Paul Cowland and Drew Pritchard and their team that re-engineered it in order to look as good as it went, and it is the team’s names that currently adorn the Fiat’s flanks. ‘TNB 637J’ was imported as a road car from the rust-free state of California in 2015 and then fully race prepared at considerable expense. It had already been a race winner when acquired by Salvage Hunters, who set about improving its aesthetics. The Peppermint Green bodywork was refinished in the original works colours of red and black and the silver alloy wheels replaced by period-correct gold Cromodora ones shod with semi-click Toyo track tyres. A new custom roll cage unleashed more internal space, while a replacement facia and console were expertly hand-crafted in aluminium.

The Spider’s impressive specification includes: full race 1608cc Lampredi twin-cam competition engine built by Ellegi Motori complete with twin downdraft Weber carburettors, electronic ignition, four-branch exhaust manifold, stainless steel exhaust system, aluminium radiator, electric fan, silicone coolant hoses, oil cooler, race sump, lightweight high power alternator, high torque starter motor, Odyssey lightweight battery and lightweight foam-filled fuel cell; rebuilt genuine Abarth close-ratio gearbox, competition paddle clutch, lightened flywheel and differential with LSD; adjustable control arms and anti-roll bar, Leda adjustable dampers and Eibach springs; drilled and grooved brake discs, EBC pads, dash-adjustable pedal box and braided lines; Sparco Rev bucket seats, Willans four-point harnesses, plumbed-in and handheld fire extinguishers.

This very desirable Fiat racer was recently treated to a full service and is now being sold complete with Motorsport UK historic passport, HSCC competition documentation, correspondence from Fiat confirming the car’s heritage, plus a spare set of Sparco 14” road wheels and tyres, and some coilover suspension units.

In summary:

  • An impeccably prepared competition example
  • Comes complete with full competition paperwork
  • Featured on ‘Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars’
