1973 Covin Porsche 964 Turbo Evocation

Registraion - YDZ 6911

Chassis No. - 3132073810

M.O.T. - June 2024

Odometer - 37,731

When is a Porsche 964 Turbo not a Porsche? Well when it’s a Covin replica it would seem. We haven’t received a great deal of information on this particular example, but can confirm that it is a Porsche 964 Turbo replica that is finished in the attractive colour of Zenith Blue. This is matched to black leather interior trim that includes a pair of genuine Porsche seats. The car rides on a set of Twist alloy wheels and is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system. Rather than one of Porsche’s familiar flat-six engines, the power source for ‘YDZ 6911’ is a 2.2-litre Subaru Legacy unit. The vendor currently views the powerplant and four-speed manual gearbox as ‘excellent’, and the coupe bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. He is now selling the Covin complete with a Sony radio/CD player, leather-rimmed steering wheel and a large history file containing invoices and an original Covin sales brochure, plus a current MOT valid to June 26 next year. The odometer currently registers an unwarranted but totally credible total mileage of 37,731.

The Covin marque was established by Tim Cook and Nick Vincent sometime in the early ‘80s. Early versions of their creation were constructed using shortened Beetle floorpans and running gear, while later iterations were based on a dedicated Covin chassis and VW Type 3 running gear. Engines were left to the personal preference of the customers. We are unsure how many examples exist, but can relay that a few years back there were no less than 378 members of the Covin Owners Club.

In summary:

  • Good enough to fool some of the people some of the time
  • Comes complete with history files, sales brochure and current MOT
  • Good fun and a lot more affordable than the real thing
