The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 113

1989 Porsche 944 S2
The subject of an engine rebuild just 500 miles ago

Registration - F542 OKX

Chassis No. - WP0ZZZ94ZKN402282

M.O.T. - February 2024

Odometer - 111,292

The metallic blue paintwork of this very presentable S2 is matched to a grey half-leather interior. It has had just six keepers to date, the most recent of which has retained the Porsche for the last 19 years. The straight-four engine was treated to a rebuild only 500 miles ago, during which a set of Wossner pistons and liners and a three-piece replacement clutch were installed. The vendor now regards the 3.0-litre powerplant, five-speed manual transmission, coupe bodywork and paintwork as all being in ‘excellent’ order, and the upholstery as ‘good’. We understand the 944 was serviced by Porsche dealer Chariots of St Albans up 65,576 mile,s and by a marque specialist since then. The car is now available for sale complete with factory sunroof, Panasonic radio/cassette, owner’s manual, service book, build sticker and some history, plus a current MOT valid to February 26 next year. The odometer currently registers a total mileage of 111,292.

Introduced in 1982, Porsche’s front-engined, rear-wheel drive 944 was a direct development of the 924. The company replaced the latter’s Audi engine with their own four-cylinder unit of 2.5-litres which, despite having few common parts, was effectively half of the 5-litre V8 that powered the 928. Other significant changes included wider wheel arches, a better equipped, more refined interior and upgrades to the suspension and brakes. From the outset, the model boasted excellent handling - the specification of a rear transaxle endowing the 944 with nigh on 50/50 distribution. The 944 S2 saw the light of day in 1989, by which time the normally aspirated engine had grown via 2.7 to 3.0-litres in capacity. There were now two body styles to choose from – coupe and cabriolet. A total of some 14,071 coupes were produced before the 944 model range was superseded by the 968 in 1991.

In summary:

  • Has remained within the current ownership for the last 19 years
  • The subject of an engine rebuild just 500 miles ago
  • Main dealer services up to 64,576 miles. Comes with MOT to Feb.
