And now for something completely different! Haven’t seen one before? Well it’s a GTM Rossa MK2 that was purchased new in kit form by the vendor’s husband for he and his son to build. Sadly, the father passed away before much progress was made, so the son then took responsibility for bringing the project to fruition. The model’s fibreglass monocoque body was designed to accept Mini subframes front and rear and Mini or Metro running gear. However, it was decided that a Honda Civic Type R VTEC powerplant would result in a much more exciting car, and Z Cars of Ashford, Kent were commissioned to modify the rear end to suit. The little two-seater was completed and road registered in 2013, following which it was taken to car shows and generally enjoyed, but has now lain idle for a number of years and therefore seeks a caring new home. ‘YX13 CSY’ is finished in gunmetal grey, trimmed in black textile and rides on five-spoke Revolution alloy wheels shod with Yokohama tyres. It features prominent spoilers front and rear and a hefty roll-over hoop behind the seats, while the shapely fibreglass roof can be readily removed for wind-in-the-hair motoring. The functional cockpit boasts a pair of Cobra racing bucket seats fitted with Sabelt harnesses, while steering is achieved via an Alcantara-rimmed OMP competition steering wheel. The exact performance potential of the car is unknown, but bearing in mind the perennially praised figures achieved by the infinitely heavier saloons in which this GTM’s engine would normally be found, it seems fair to say that it will be extremely brisk, and sufficiently so to embarrass a lot of infinitely more expensive machinery!

The GTM marque dates back to 1967 when Bernard Cox and Jack Hosker created the Cox GTM (Grand Touring Mini), a mid-engined two-seater based on Mini parts. Though the company changed hands a number of times over the ensuing years, the products continued to evolve along similar lines, with the Rossa and Libra being the standout models; both of which were penned by serial kit car designer Richard Oakes.

In summary:

  • A unique Honda-powered lightweight sports car
  • Unused for several years, but full of potential
  • Being sold at No Reserve
