The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 107

1991 Nissan Figaro
**NO RESERVE**

Registration - J895 PKK

Chassis No. - FK10011375

M.O.T. - June 2024

Odometer - 227,144

‘J895 PKK’ was imported and first UK registered in 2002, since when it’s passed through five pairs of hands, the most recent of which acquired the little Nissan in September 2021. It is finished in Emerald Green and trimmed in white leather and has apparently benefited from some £6,000 worth of refurbishment in the last five years. The related work has included: a cylinder head skim; regrinding of the valves; replacement of the piston rings, big-end bearings, water pump, timing belt and radiator; renewal of the suspension wishbones and brake pipes; a degree of underside welding and replacement of the rear arches, and refresh of the paintwork. The vendor now classes the engine and transmission as ‘good’ and is selling the Figaro complete with a selection of invoices and a current advisory-free MOT valid to June 20 next year. The odometer currently stands at 227,000 Kilometres (c.141,000 miles).

Nissan’s characterful little Figaro convertible was introduced to the world at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show, for which the Japanese company used ‘Back to the Future’ as its marketing tagline. The 2+2 model was based on the Micra of the day, and featured a front-mounted 987cc turbo engine of 75bhp driving the front wheels via a three-speed automatic gearbox. A design critic writing for the New York times described the Figaro as ‘the height of postmodernism and unabashedly retro, promiscuously combining elements of the Citroën 2 CV, Renault 4, classic Mini and Fiat 500’! Whatever your take on the design, it caused quite a stir at launch and continues to do so today. Amazingly, production was limited to a single year (1991), during which a total of only 20,073 were produced, all of which were equipped with righthand drive. The model was offered in just four colours that were intended to represent the seasons of the year – Emerald Green (spring), Pale Aqua (summer), Topaz Mist (autumn) and Lapis Grey (winter).

In summary:

  • A five-keeper 141,000-mile example imported in 2002
  • The subject of £6,000 worth of refurbishment in the last five years
  • Being sold at No Reserve
