  Lot 106

1993 Peugeot 205 XAD GL Van
**NO RESERVE**

Registration - K604 XDH

Chassis No. - VF320SA9225196834

M.O.T. - December 2023

Odometer - 70,000

Please note -This lot is being re-offered due to a defaulting purchaser

Now here’s a bit of cost-effective fun, a very practical little van with more than a passing resemblance to a Peugeot 205GTi saloon, that’s being offered for sale at No Reserve. The vendor believes it’s one of only nine XAD commercials left on UK roads, and informs us that it was recently treated to an extended life by receiving the diesel engine and gearbox from a lower mileage donor vehicle, as well the related speedometer that currently indicates a total of 77,532 miles. The van has also benefited from the replacement of its original sills and quarter panels, plus a basic refresh of its blue paintwork (the finish of which the vendor describes as ‘reasonable but not professional’), and it nowadays rides on recently refurbished 1.9 GTi alloy wheels shod in ‘excellent’ Toyo tyres. In summary he describes the little Peugeot as ‘super reliable and ridiculously economical’, and classes its four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual gearbox as ‘good’, and the bodywork, paintwork and red and blue seat covers and carpet as ‘average’. ‘K604 XDH’, which was declared a Category N (ie non-structural write-off) in 2022, is now offered at No reserve complete with Pioneer sound system, tow pack, strut brace, history file, handbooks, donor engine paperwork, and an MOT valid to December 9.

The seemingly immortal Peugeot 205 GTi is so universally revered that it’s easy to forget that the more utilitarian versions of the 205 range were exceedingly successful in their own right, and that the line-up not only included four and two-door hatchback variants but convertibles, and even a two-seater panel van that could be specified with either petrol (XA) or diesel (XAD) power. The diesel engines were world-beating units that won over countless buyers with their combination of petrol-style performance and the high-level of economy expected of oil-burning powerplants. They were also renowned for the durability. The 205 range was in production from 1983 to 1999, when it was replaced by the 206.

In summary

  • Recently fitted with 77,532-mile replacement engine and gearbox
  • The subject of a recent body and paint refresh
  • Being offered at No Reserve
