The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 102

1993 Mitsubishi GTO Twin-Turbo Special Version
**NO RESERVE** Desirable manual transmission

Registration - K912 SWP

Chassis No. - Z16A-0016487

M.O.T. - May 2024

Odometer - 91,691 KMs (56,974 Miles)

The rare and spectacular-looking first generation GTO is finished in Sandstone Grey and trimmed in grey fabric, and is understood to be from the second batch of 150 such special versions and to be equipped with a second generation engine, gearbox and brakes. It rides on the optional BBS alloy wheels shod with newly-installed Delinte DH2 tyres. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo DOHC V6 engine links to the car’s permanent four-wheel drive system via the desirable five-speed manual gearbox. A delete kit has been applied to the rearwheel steering system, but the car retains its impressive active aero facility courtesy of automatically adjusting front and rear spoilers. A JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) example, it was first UK registered in September 2006, since when it has had seven keepers, the most recent of whom has retained it since January 2019. He presently classes the engine, transmission and bodywork as ‘excellent’ and the upholstery as ‘good’, and is now offering the 2+2 complete with current MOT valid to May 20 next year. The odometer currently registers an unwarranted but totally credible 91,691 total kilometres (56,974 miles) and, though apparently in rude health these days, the car remains classified as a CAT D insurance write off following an accident in 2006.

Mitsubishi’s GTO (known as the 3000GT in the US market) was introduced in 1990 as a direct competitor to the Mazda RX7, Nissan 300ZX, Honda NSX, Subaru SVX and Toyota Supra. It was developed over three generations during a production run of 11 years. A high-tech vehicle by any standards, it featured a front mounted twin-turbo V6 engine of 276bhp, permanent fourwheel drive transmission, fourwheel steering, and what is described as an ‘active aero control system’ in order to optimise the available downforce and general flow of air across the body that has a drag coefficient of 0.33.

In summary:

  • A JDM Special Version first UK registered in 2006
  • Features second generation engine, gearbox and brakes
  • Classified as a CAT D write-off, and being sold at No Reserve
