Chassis No. - SRH24336
Registration - NTL 700P
M.O.T. - EXEMPT
Odometer – 20,071
With a production run in excess of 30,000, the Silver Shadow is by far the most recognised model in the company’s 115-year history, good specimens of which are greatly prized. This decidedly handsome unmolested Shadow I features Regal Red metallic paintwork complemented by a beige-coloured Everflex roof and an array of gleaming brightwork. The sumptuous interior is upholstered in cream-coloured hide. ‘NTL 700P’ took to the roads in April 1976 when delivered new to its inaugural keeper by the then Rolls-Royce agent JRJ Mansbridge of Lincoln. He initially registered the car through his farm business, but later placed the title in his own name, so at the time it was auctioned in 2004 it was effectively still a one owner vehicle with just 14,353 miles on the clock. The ensuing 17 years have seen just 5,718 miles added to the odometer – ie an average of just 336 a year! – which surely makes this lovely Silver Shadow one of the lowest mileage examples around, and certainly one with decades of luxurious motoring left in it. Seemingly in very fine order throughout, it is now being offered complete with rear overmats, chrome badge bar and a pair of Notek Fogmaster lights.
The Shadow’s arrival in 1965 resulted in many firsts for Rolls-Royce, including: unitary construction, disc brakes and independent rear suspension. Though smaller than the Silver Cloud III it replaced, it possessed greater space and boasted far more contemporary looks. At launch it was powered by a 172bhp V8 engine of 6,230cc, though this was enlarged to 6,750cc during 1970. The ‘magic carpet’ ride was achieved courtesy of a system licensed from Citroën.
