Lot 60

1975 Ford Escort MK2 Rally Car

Chassis No. - BBATRD12706

Registration - KBR 352N

M.O.T - March 2022

If you’re seeking a ready-to-go Group 4 Clubman spec. rally car, then look no further, as this on the button MkII Ford Escort apparently has everything you need. First registered in April 1975, ‘KBR 353N’ certainly looks the part. Finished in white matched to a black interior, it is powered by a 2.0-litre Pinto engine which, equipped with a pair of 45 DCOE Weber carburettors and Piper 300 camshaft, is currently delivering 175bhp at 7,000rpm and 145 lb ft of torque at 5,500rpm. The unit is mated to a four-speed straight-cut Ford Rocket gearbox that in turn drives through a five-link Atlas axle featuring slipper rings, Quaife semi-floating halfshafts and limited slip differential. The suspension is to Group 4 Bilstein specification front and rear, and steering is courtesy of a suitably ‘quick’ rack and pinion set-up. The braking system comprises a bias pedal box, discs all round with Wilwood 4-pot calipers on the front, and a hydraulic handbrake. The workmanlike interior houses a full roll cage, pair of Corbeau competition seats and TWR four-point racing harnesses which, together with the on-board fire extinguishers, are all in date. This fast Ford is now available complete with MSA log book and V5C.

Ford’s ubiquitous MKII Escort was manufactured between 1974 and 1980 and has been the basis of some of the most durable and successful rally cars of all time, and there are surely few more enjoyable ways of going rallying than from behind the wheel of the model made famous by such aces of the sport as Roger Clark, Björn Waldegard, Hannu Mikkola, Ari Vatanen and Timo Mäkinen, to name but a few.

In summary:

  • A tidy, ready-to-rally Group 4 Clubmans car
  • Comprehensive mechanical specification
  • Plain white paintwork that’s perfect for future sponsors’ logos
