Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

Lot 46

1955 Austin-Healey 100/4, M Specification (Mille Miglia Eligible)

Chassis No. - BN2 288920

Registration - 706 XVG

M.O.T. - May 2021

Odometer – 63,300

This stunning BN2 Healey 100/4 left the Longbridge production line in October 1955 bound for the car-friendly climate of Melbourne, Australia. Prior to its repatriation in 2019 it was treated to an extensive rebuild by the globally-renowned Healey specialist Steve Pike of Marsh Classic Restorations, Darley, on the outskirts of Melbourne. Since its arrival on these shores it has been upgraded to full M specification by one of the UK’s longest-established Healey specialists, Murray Scott-Nelson of Scarborough, Yorkshire. The notably low 63,000 miles currently displayed on the odometer is believed to be genuine.

The rebuild included: the installation of M spec. pistons, alloy cylinder head fed by a pair of H6 SU M spec. carburettors, aluminium cold air box, Dynalite alternator and multi-blade electric cooling fan, plus the dynamic balancing of crankshaft, conrods, flywheel and clutch. Also installed were: uprated dampers and anti-roll bar, a heavy-duty rose-jointed clutch linkage and louvered bonnet and Le Mans-style leather strap. This concours Healey has been displayed at the NEC Classic Car show and a GRRC Members’ meeting at Goodwood. Superbly finished in blue over white teamed with blue leather interior trim, ‘706 XVG’ comes complete with blue tonneau cover, woodrim steering wheel, USB power socket, Brantz rally timer, FIVA ID card and Heritage Certificate. More fundamentally, it is registered with the organisers of the Mille Miglia classic rally, for which it has an Eligibility Booklet and related bumper badge. As the vendor points out: “That makes this car a very cost-effective means of entry into one of the world’s foremost classic car events,” and he has even offered any new keeper the benefit of his experience and contacts in securing a place.

In summary:

  • A beautifully-presented example
  • Uprated to full M works specification
  • Notably low mileage
