Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

Lot 44

1996 Audi S2 Coupe

Chassis No. - WAUZZZ8BZTA001147

Registration - N440 XRA

M.O.T. - June 2021

Odometer – 179,500

The superb condition of this late model, six-speed manual transmission S2 belies its age and mileage. Manufactured in 1995 and first registered on January 3 the following year, it’s finished in the rare and very attractive combination of silver bodywork and red leather interior trim. The vendor views the bodywork and mechanics of the car to all be in ‘excellent’ order; likewise the Audi’s interior, save for some slight wear on the driver’s seat. The car is accompanied by a massive history file that details the maintenance carried out, which has included: the fitment of a new rear subframe, clutch and Powerflow stainless steel exhaust system; refurbishment of the front subframe and suspension etc. In recent times ‘N440 XRA’ has been treated to a major service that included the replacement of the: timing belt and water pump; engine gearbox and differential oil; and air and oil filters. This ‘brilliant driving’ S2 is now being offered for sale complete with new Alpine DAB head unit and an MOT valid until June 15 this year.

Audi’s S2 was something of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, for secreted below the sporty but unostentatious hatchback exterior was a 2.2-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine, whose healthy output of 227bhp was sufficient to power the coupe (or estate version) to 60mph in under six seconds and on to a top speed of around 155mph. Moreover, the unit was coupled to the company’s legendary Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, which provided drivers with a sufficient level of roadholding to make full use of the available performance, whatever the weather. The S2 model was manufactured from 1991 to 1995.

In summary:

  • Excellent condition for age and c.179,500 miles
  • Accompanied by a huge history file
  • Considerable level of recent maintenance
