This purposeful RTS Jawa is believed to have been manufactured in the late 1990s or early 2000s. Although it doesn’t come with any paperwork, the vendor has owned it for about three years and reports the Jawa engine, two-speed transmission and electrics are all in ‘excellent’ condition, with a ‘good’ RTS frame. Running methanol fuel and using Putoline engine oil, the bike is “ready to race”.
Jawa is a renowned force in the sport of speedway racing. Founded by Czech Frantisek Janecek, he initially chose to build a 500cc ‘Wanderer’ motorcycle under licence, but soon ended up acquiring the entire firm. This led to the Jawa name – the first two letters of his and Wanderer’s names. The move into speedway came in the 1960s with the company purchasing fellow Czech brand ESO. This saw Janecek’s firm perfecting the 500cc, single fixed gear and no brakes formula. Jawa has remained the leading engine manufacturer for purpose-built speedway machines to this day.
