This early first generation Continental GT has lived a little, as confirmed by the registered mileage of 128,378, and the vendor volunteers that, ‘following a number of years in storage it would now benefit from a degree of recommissioning’. Apparently it starts, runs and drives with all the ratios of its automatic four-wheel drive transmission operating correctly. However, the ABS, EML and spoiler warning lights are all displaying, so some investigation is required in each case. He says that though there are some marks on the deep blue paintwork, it is ‘reasonably presentable and polishes up nicely’. The anthracite-coloured alloy wheels have apparently been ‘newly refurbished inside and out’ and look very smart. His view regarding the sumptuous tan/blue hide interior is that ‘it would now benefit from being re-Connollised’. He says the W12 engine ‘sounds powerful’ and that the air suspension ‘appears to work correctly as the car sits evenly’. The Bentley has had five keepers to date, comes with a Parrot Bluetooth kit, and is being sold Without Reserve.
Launched at the 2003 Geneva Salon, the Continental GT differed from the previous Continental R and T models in being mass produced rather coach-built, which allowed far greater numbers to be manufactured at a more attractive price – the cost at launch was literally less than half that of Continental R, thereby dramatically widening the potential customer base. It was powered by a twin-turbocharged W12 engine of 6.0-litres, the output of which was a mighty 552bhp – sufficient for a 0-60mph acceleration time of some 4.8 seconds and top speed just shy of 200mph! The first generation remained in production until 2011
