Lot 97

1992 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4
Full Underneath Body Rebuild

Chassis No. - WF0FXXGBBFNC68203

Registration - K720 YWK

M.O.T. - September 2021

Odometer – 32,214

Now here’s one for the many fast Ford specialists among you – a handsome example of one of the company’s most venerated road/competition models, the Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4. Its Nouveau Red bodywork is complemented by a black leather interior and the car is described by the vendor as being in ‘outstanding condition inside and out’. Apparently, within the last 12-18 months it has been treated to a full rebuild of the underbody, during which genuine new Ford drive shafts, suspension bushes, brake discs and lines, and a full stainless steel exhaust system have been installed. Also fitted were a fresh set of tyres on equally new 17 inch Compomotive alloy wheels, and a replacement engine wiring loom. The result is a car the vendor says ‘drives as should’. He is now offering it for sale to a new keeper complete with an extensive service history that apparently fills in excess of two books, past tax discs and MOTs, plus a current certificate valid to September 14 this year.

Always quick to support the performance and motorsport markets, Ford introduced the be-winged Sierra XR4i in 1983, XR 4x4 in 1985, Sierra RS Cosworth in 1986, Sierra RS500 Cosworth in 1987, Sierra Sapphire in 1988 and Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 in 1990; some 12,250 of which were manufactured before Ford’s power mantle was assumed by the Escort RS Cosworth in 1992. Though lacking the international success of the two-wheel drive Cosworth, the Sapphire 4x4 quickly became a potent national weapon, and examples are still contesting club rallies to this day.

In summary:

  • Resplendent in Nouveau Red bodywork
  • Lots of genuine new Ford parts fitted in last 12-18 months
  • Includes fresh set of tyres on new 17 inch Compomotive alloy wheels

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.
