Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

Lot 94

1989 Ford Sierra XR4x4

Chassis No. - WFOAXXCBBAKJ16143

Registration - F109 ROO

M.O.T. - No M.O.T

Odometer – 75,965

This fast Ford boasts an interesting history as, having been built at the Dagenham factory, it was reportedly adopted by Ford for use by a director, and then possibly the press fleet, before being employed by Haynes in connection with their service manuals. As a result of the latter relationship, there is an under-bonnet plaque confirming it was sold to the public devoid of manufacturer warranty. Presumably as a result of it being what was seemingly a special order vehicle, the car is also equipped with a Ford air conditioning system, which is thought to have been a rare fitment at the time.

‘F109 ROO’ has recently benefited from a considerable degree of recommissioning that’s included: new sills (stone-chipped to match the bodywork); a complete respray; new electronic fuel injection unit (the original one is included with the car); general service and replacement of the spark plugs; new rear brake calipers and pads; a fresh set of door cards; and the fitment of smoked rear light units in place of the standard items. Finished in grey and trimmed in grey cloth, the Sierra currently displays a total mileage of 75,965, that’s been accrued by a total of six keepers, the most recent of whom has owned the car since December 2019.

Unveiled at the 1982 British International Motor Show, the aerodynamically styled Sierra was a big departure from the traditionally-shaped Cortina it replaced. The XR4x4 four-wheel drive version was introduced three years later, initially powered by Ford’s 2.8-litre Cologne V6 engine. However, this was supplanted in 1989 by the more-efficient 2.9-litre version that, as per the sale car, featured electronic rather than mechanical fuel injection.

In summary:

  • Comes with an interesting history
  • Recently benefited from a considerable degree of recommissioning
  • Specification includes factory-fitted air conditioning and sunroof
