Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

Lot 84

Lot 84 - 1995 BMW M3 3.0 Convertible

1995 BMW M3 3.0 Convertible

Chassis No. - ES85294

Registration - M3 XLM

M.O.T. - June 2021

Odometer – 161,000

BMW M cars have a cachet matched by few other marques, and good E36 M3s are among the models that are increasingly sought after. Moreover, the convertible versions are pretty rare, with just 572 made in righthand drive form, of which probably only a couple of hundred remain. This handsome manual gearbox example is resplendent in the ever popular colour of Avus Blue, that’s complemented by Silver Grey extended Nappa leather interior trim. The bodywork has recently been treated to a £2,780 refresh and is now described as ‘excellent with a deep gloss’. The interior trim has been reconnollised and is seemingly immaculate, while the BMW rides on its original double-spoke alloy wheels that are unmarked, correctly finished and shod with new Continental tyres on the front and Avons on the rear. The engine was fully rebuilt just 500 miles ago by an ex-BMW Master Technician of Independent Vehicles, Timperley at a cost of £3,500, during which it was equipped with a new crankshaft and shells, the head reworked and everything balanced. It drives through a low mileage replacement five-speed gearbox. The smart blue BAS hood is another new item, as are the brake discs, calipers and Aeroquip brake lines and various suspension components. This already well-equipped car that boasts such niceties as electrically controlled heated front seats has recently been treated to a top the range Alpine CD head unit with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

In conclusion, the enthusiast vendor points out that ‘although the car has clocked 161,000 miles from new, everything of importance has recently been sorted or renewed and it now runs ‘like a watch’. A rare opportunity.

In summary:

  • A very smartly-presented, well-equipped example
  • Only 500 miles driven since thousands of pounds invested on engine and many other items
  • Recently uprated audio system
