Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

Lot 50

1989 Range Rover Classic

Chassis No. - SALLHAML3FA361168

Registration - F136 HWF

M.O.T. - July 2021

Odometer – 118,965

The values of Range Rover Classics have been on the march for some years now and unmolested ones are increasingly keenly sought, meaning there could be strong interest in this remarkably original and tidy-looking 1989 example. It has apparently seen very little use at the hands of the vendor, who’s owned it and largely dry stored it for the last 20 years. This means the vast majority of the recorded 118,965 miles were accrued by previous keepers during the vehicle’s first 12 years. As some stage it has been treated to an LPG conversion, which could be a big plus for anybody put off by the fuel consumption of the standard 4x4.

Finished in the attractive combination of red metallic bodywork and grey cloth interior trim, ‘F136 HWF’ also boasts a factory fitted sunroof, tow pack, period radio and side steps, and is now being offered complete with new rear springs and new Michelin tyres on the front, plus a degree of service history, certificates for the LPG system and a current MOT valid until July 22 this year.

The David Bache-penned Range Rover created a whole new genre of go-anywhere vehicles - a heady list that its descendants still top to this day. It was based around a box section chassis and steel ‘safety frame’ onto which the lightweight outer panels were bolted. Power came from the ubiquitous Rover V8 – initially in 3.5-litre guise. This was connected to a permanent four-wheel drive system for optimum traction – a transfer box offered a full set of high and low gear ratios. Suspension was by long travel coil springs all round and braking by discs front and rear.

In summary:

  • An apparently very original unmolested example
  • Converted to run on LPG
  • Well-equipped with sun roof, tow pack and side steps
