Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

Lot 37

1986 Ferrari 412

Chassis No - ZFFYD24000062419

Registration - C537 RRR

M.O.T - November 2021

Odometer – 73,538

To some aficionados, a ‘Prancing Horse’ is not a proper Ferrari unless it’s powered by a V12 engine mounted up front and driving the rear wheels, a specification the 412 fits to a tee. This exceedingly smart example of a rare breed (only 576 were produced) was delivered new in 1986 to renowned entrepreneur and property magnate Peter de Savary, who is said to have subsequently lost it over a game of golf – an expensive round by any standards! At that stage its now beautifully patinated red leather interior was matched to blue bodywork, however, that was apparently changed to black a year into the car’s life. The vendor recently invested £7,000 in having his local Ferrari specialist ensure the Ferrari was in tip top condition throughout, and it comes with a two-page list of tasks carried out, including: the fitment of a complete ‘super sounding’ stainless steel exhaust system’; the expert removal of minor areas of corrosion from underneath the car and the boot lid, and the paintwork made good as required; the retrimming of the dashboard in black leather and the parcel shelf in exactly the correct shade of red hide; an overhaul of the wiring system; the installation of a new factory specification radio amplifier. The odometer currently registers a credible 73,538 miles, and this lovely righthand drive Italian icon is now being offered complete with an MOT valid into November.

Ferrari’s Tipo F101 trio of front-engined 2+2 grand tourers, the 365 GT4, 400 and 412, were all designed by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina and manufactured between 1972 and 1989, at which point the series was superseded by the 456.

In summary:

  • Beautifully presented with Black bodywork matched to a red hide interior
  • Recently benefiting from a £7,000 front to rear overhaul
  • Enticing early history
